Welcome! My name is Akhil Chugh. I am a design strategist, product manager and UX specialist — in other words, I am extremely passionate about the intersection of design, business & technology, and being able to employ a human-centered approach to empathize with the needs and to solve the problems of others.
I recently completed a dual-degree – MBA / MA in Design Leadership – from Johns Hopkins (Carey Business School) and the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). It was a unique program that combined creativity and design thinking to a traditional MBA. While in grad school, I also led a Design for America studio, where I facilitated workshops and guided interdisciplinary student teams in applying human-centered design to create local and social impact in the Baltimore community. Partners included: Armstrong Institute (Hopkins Medicine), Section.1 (Urban Art Park).
Rewinding just a tad, I completed my undergraduate degree in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo. After school, I worked as a client-facing consultant for a number of years before switching gears and working with a small web-based startup company as a product manager.
Aside from working, I enjoy playing sports (soccer, basketball, and pretty much any other), cooking (and of course eating), and traveling any chance I get. During undergrad, I went on a study-abroad term to Singapore. While I was there and traveling around, I started getting into photography. There is something incredible about capturing a timeless moment or being able to evoke emotion and imagination in the viewer of a photo. Check out some of my pictures in the photography section.
